  • Black Applicant Stream Proposal

    BLSA Osgoode has spearheaded a report that sets out a proposal for the establishment of a dedicated Black Applicant Stream at Osgoode Hall Law School. The goal of this recommendation is to improve the recruitment of
    Black applicants to the law school by improving the ability of the application process to understand
    and account for their unique experiences.

  • Opportunity Day

    On October 5th, BLSA Osgoode hosted our annual Opportunity Day!

    We had the chance to host pre-law students who identify as Black and are applying to law school to join us for a day of application tips, tricks and law school advice. We also had the chance to help applicants for this admission cycle with a personal statement review.

  • Pre-Law Expo

    On September 21st, BLSA Osgoode had the pleasure of hosting BLSA Canada’s Pre-Law Expo at Osgoode Hall Law School!

    Over 200 attendees, including pre-law students, law students, lawyers, judges and law school admissions reps came together to be empowered and inspire future Black legal talent. Thank you to our BLSA Osgoode event volunteers for stepping up to help run the Expo so smoothly!

    Thank you to the BLSA Canada sponsors and workshop facilitators for championing our mission to shape the future of the legal profession by investing into Black pre-law students.

  • Law Path Conference

    In collaboration with BFL York (Black Future Lawyers) and BE York (Black Excellence at York U), on October 26th BLSA Osgoode hosted a conference where BFL York and BE YU members learned more about Osgoode’s admissions process, heard from Osgoode students what law school is like and, learned more about the Avenue program and tips for applying!

    Thank you so much to the wonderful prospective black students that came out to attend the conference. Your future is bright and the BLSA Osgoode team is glad to be able to support you on your journey to success!

  • ALUMNI PANEL: Navigating Osgoode & Beyond

    On October 23rd BLSA hosted an engaging panel discussion with BLSA Osgoode Alumni. Our wonderful alumni shared insights into their experience navigating law school, how they carved their legal career paths and the twists and turns they faced along the way. This event offered a platform for critical discussions, analysis and an opportunity to hear directly from BLSA grads who have found success within and beyond Osgoode Hall! Thank you to our alumni members Barbara, Husoni and Masuud for making time to come and share their valuable experiences with our BLSA Osgoode members.

  • 1L Welcome Cookout

  • The Black Excellence Student Awards

    The Black Excellence Student Awards seek to recognize self-identifying Black law students who embody the characteristics set out in BLSA’s mandate and have made positive contributions within their law school and/or the Black Community outside of the school. These awards serve to highlight students who embody the characteristics and values of leadership, mentorship, teamwork, positivity and community support and development through their contributions to the Black Community within and outside of law school

    Individuals seeking to have their contributions recognized may self-nominate or be nominated by others for one or multiple awards. Seven Award recipients will be announced at the Black Excellence Gala held on March 23, 2023.

    To celebrate Black History Month this year, we at BLSA Osgoode decided to highlight the Talented Black Creatives in our community. This zine is celebrates Black Joy and Youth Empowerment, showcasing vibrant and powerful movements and stories that recognize and uplifts the beauty, creativity, and resilience of Black youth.
