Calling Prospective Law Students: Opportunity Day 2020

The Osgoode Black Law Students’ Association invites aspiring law students from all walks of life to spend a day in the halls of Osgoode Hall Law School.  Opportunity Day provides aspiring law students the opportunity to learn about the law school application process, attend a panel discussion, and speak with law students.  Whether you are a high school or undergraduate student who is considering law school, or if you are an adult who is considering a new career in the legal profession, the Black Law Students’ Association welcomes you to Opportunity Day!

This year, Opportunity Day will be held on Saturday, October 3 2020 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

If you would like your personal statement to be reviewed, please submit it to blsa@osgoode.yorku.ca no later than Friday September 25th.

Attention 1Ls and BLSA members: Join us for a plenary session on Anti-Black Racism and the Criminal Justice System. This event will be taking place on Friday September 25th at 1:30pm via Zoom.

In keeping with our recommendations to Osgoode to integrate discussions of Black history and anti-Black racism in Canadian law within its curriculum, BLSA is proud to present this plenary session.

We will be joined by the following two guest speakers: Robyn Maynard (author of Policing Black Lives: State Violence in Canada from Slavery to the Present) and Paul Smithers (community activist with first-hand experience battling systemic racism in the criminal justice system).

Please stay tuned for more information on Zoom details!

Second Annual Osgoode BLSA Wellness Retreat: Sept 25 – 25th

The Osgoode BLSA Wellness Retreat is back for its second year!

The purpose of the Osgoode BLSA Wellness Retreat is to equip new and returning BLSA members with strategies and networks to excel in law school. Moreover, the purpose of the retreat is to provide an open space for BLSA members to discuss and explore culturally-aware perspectives and approaches to cultivating wellness in ourselves and in other Black law students.

The retreat is scheduled for September 25th-27th, and will include everything from icebreaker games, discussion sessions on topics particularly relevant to BLSA students, virtual games/escape rooms, and more! Given ongoing public health requirements regarding social distancing, all events/sessions of the retreat will be delivered virtually (via Zoom). Please complete this registration form by Tuesday September 8th at midnight, so that we have all the information we need!
